Stephen King Movies > The Shining

Synopsis

Because it tends to leave out a lot of the book's plot, tending to rely on the viewers imagination and good guess to find out what is really happening, the film seems quite a disappointment.  This may only be if you have read the book, however with out reading the book most people believe the film to be quite good.

Jack Torrance becomes the caretaker of the Overlook Hotel in up in the secluded mountains of Colorado, a hotel so remote that it closes for the entire winter, leaving the Torrance family as the only occupants.  Not a good situation at the best of times for a young boy to be in, it is made only worse as the five year old ,Danny, is, in the words of Mr Holloran the chef, a "shiner", a psychic.

When the snow storms finally cut off the outside world from the hotel Danny soon discovers that the hotel is haunted.  The spirits are slowly driving Jack crazy, and when Jack meets the ghost of Mr. Grady, the former custodian of the hotel who murdered his wife and his two daughters, things begin to get really out of control...
